Can the iPhone withstand water? That’s useful to know if you accidentally drop it in the pool. But beware, the waterproofness of your iPhone is not 100%. I’ll tell you exactly how waterproof your iPhone is.

Which iPhone is waterproof

The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max have IP68. This means that they can be underwater for a maximum of half an hour. Up to 6 meters depth.

The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max also have IP68. This means that they can be underwater for a maximum of half an hour. Up to 6 meters depth.

iPhone 13, Mini, Pro, and Pro Max

The iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max can also withstand water well. With IP68, they can survive underwater at a depth of 6 meters for up to half an hour.

iPhone 12, Mini, Pro, and Pro Max

Just like the above models, the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max also have IP68. These can also remain underwater up to a depth of 6 meters for a maximum of half an hour.

iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max

With the IP68 certificate, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max can remain underwater up to 4 meters for 30 minutes.

iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 is splash and water-resistant. With IP67, this Apple phone can be submerged underwater for up to half an hour. Up to 2 meters deep.

iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation

The iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone SE (3rd generation) have IP67. They can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

iPhone X, XR, and XS (Max)

The iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS also have IP67. They can withstand water, but too much water can cause water damage. These Apple phones can survive up to 2 meters deep for 30 minutes.

iPhone 8 (Plus)

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus also have an IP67 certificate. They are not waterproof, but they are water resistant. They can withstand 30 minutes underwater up to a maximum depth of 1 meter.

iPhone 7 (Plus)

The same applies to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as to the iPhone 8 models. They are water resistant to a maximum depth of 1 meter. The water must not contain chlorine or salt.

When is a phone waterproof?

More and more phones are waterproof. But how waterproof exactly? You can see this from the IP number. This stands for Ingress Protection.

It shows how well your phone is protected against water and dust. The 1st number after the IP number represents how dust-proof your phone is.

This ranges from 0 to 6. The 2nd number represents how waterproof your phone is. This ranges from 0 to 8. The higher the number, the better the protection.

This is what you need to do if your iPhone gets wet

It may happen that you accidentally drop your iPhone in the water. To be on the safe side, it is best to do this:

  1. Check your iPhone for liquid damage.
  2. Turn off your iPhone and take off your protective case.
  3. Dry your iPhone thoroughly on the outside.
  4. If necessary, drain the water from your phone.

Is your phone not working anymore? Then have your phone repaired. Or consider a new iPhone.
